Couples Exchange Fewer Gifts on Valentine’s Day
The National Retail Federation, which always offers a great pulse reading on holiday retail spending, said we spent less on Valentine’s Day gifts this year. The NRF said people spent $63.34 on gifts for their significant other or spouse, down 6 percent from $67.22 last year. I, for one, can definitely vouch for that. My boyfriend and I decided to limit spending to $25 this year to ease the stress. Meantime a survey of our friends at dinner last night revealed that they, too, didn’t really exchange big gifts. Instead, they spent quality time together, made each other CDs, cooked heart-shaped ravioli, rented movies (or saw Valentine’s Day at the theatre). Yes, heart-shaped ravioli. Awwwwww.
